Roberto Fico, Chamber of Deputies’ President

“Salvatore Cimmino’s is an extraordinary example of how we can contribute to the development of the country. With his project “For a world without barriers and without borders” he drew the attention of institutions and all public opinion to the too many obstacles that prevent most people with disabilities from having a dignified and independent life. Salvatore brought his testimony to the Chamber today, that of those who have decided to face difficulties by doing their utmost to raise awareness on the problems that people with disabilities face every day. Hence his exceptional feats such as the swimming tour of Italy and the numerous international competitions as a true marathoner of the waters. Businesses that seem impossible even for all of us to think about.
His example reminds us that more needs to be done to break down all the barriers that seriously and systematically limit the freedom and enjoyment of the fundamental rights of people with disabilities. Guaranteeing dignity, respect and autonomy is one of our great national issues. The level of civilization of our country is measured by the way in which politics and the institutions deal with it ”.
